1956 BMW 5-Series 501-8

Collector Quality, Fully Restored, Very Rare, 1956 BMW 501 - 8 with 68k original miles, featured in Jet Black (688) with Black Leather Interior. Drivetrain features the first V-8 in BMW's history, a 2.6 Liter with Single Solex 2-bbl Downdraft Carburetor mated to a 4-Speed Manual Gearbox. Additional features include four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes, independent front suspension, body-color 15” wheels, rear suicide doors, and a discreet modern radio. Introduced at the 1951 Frankfurt Motor Show, the BMW 501 was Bayerische Motoren Werke's first new passenger vehicle to be produced in Bavaria following the conclusion of World War II. With its soft edges and curved shapes, the 501 earned the nickname “Barockengel" (Baroque Angel) due to the shared aesthetic qualities with the European artistic movement of the 16th and 17th centuries. 

This 501 had been under the same ownership since 1978 and underwent a frame off, high quality, restoration of over 3 years in the mid 2000s. It was invited and featured on the fields of both the Pebble Beach and The Quail concours. This fabulous sedan features wonderful period-correct details including a VDO gauges and other proper details including Bosch headlamps and a dash mounted bud vase. These rare and handsome German sedans get overshadowed by their mechanical siblings, the 503 and 507, and are seldom restored to this high level due to the requisite complexity, cost, and difficulty involved. A truly rare and attractive postwar German legend. We have recently run it through the shop at EAS to bring the mechanicals up to date including new shocks.
