Debuted in 1968, the W114 chassis was a mid-level sedan that featured the all new diagonal swing axle that improved drive performance without making any concessions in terms of comfort. The coupe, designed by Paul Bracq, was introduced in 1969 and featured the pillarless design that allowed for all the windows to be lowered completely for open air motoring. In 1973 the coupe received a facelift which included a lowering of the hood, a widening of the grill, and removal of the front vent windows which all added to increased elegance.
