Original Survivor, Very Clean. 1959 Mercedes-Benz 300d "Adenauer" Saloon with 66k Original Miles featured in Black (040) with Red Leather Interior and Factory White Steering Wheel. This beautifully preserved, low mileage, W189 Chassis features the pillarless hardtop sedan design, the rigid tubular framed contruction of the 300SL, and the the same fuel injected M186 in-line six cylinder of the 300SL with a slighly higher output of 178 HP. The wheelbase was extended by four inches over that of the preceding 300c to increase rear legroom. The sophisticated suspension is fully independent and features a driver-adjustable, rear load-leveling function. A pedal-operated lubrication system greases friction points in the chassis to preserve its quiet ride. This example completed production on July 14, 1959 and was delivered new to Daimler-Benz of North America in New York City. According to its data card, it was configured from the factory with a red leather interior, an ivory steering wheel, power steering, a Becker Mexico AM/FM radio, automatic antenna, whitewall tires, headrests for the front seats, and a driver-side rearview mirror. Launched in late 1951, the Type 300 was the largest and one of the most magnificent Mercedes-Benz models created post-World War II. It was aimed squarely at captains-of-industry and heads-of-state, a return to the luxury reputation they were known for in the late 20's and 30's. The Flagship 300 models are often referred to as an "Adenauer", after Konrad Adenauer, the first Chancellor of Germany (then West Germany) who employed six custom cabriolet, hardtop saloon, and landaulet versions of the W189 and its precursor W186 series during his tenure.
